My Radio Webpage
I started monitoring in 1989 with a Uniden BC140 that my wife gave me as a gift for Christmas that year. I've been hooked ever since. Over the past years; I've managed to acquire a few radios to add to the experience. I can't impress enough that the proper equipment increases the enjoyment of the hobby. Below are the radios I have collected over the years in the hobby.
Uniden BC140
- My first, and still cherished, radio. She was a ten channel when I
received her; but, I modified her to a sixteen channel. Easily upgraded
and I highly recommend doing this mod whenever possible.
Radio Shack
Pro-2006
- This is where my scanning hobby started getting out of hand. Allowed
my first taste of 800Mhz and a number of neat little modifications.
Bill Cheek (God rest his soul) was unknowingly a driving influence at
the time I bought this radio. Currently, this one is used to decode the
areas trunking systems using Trunker, Treport and Etrunker software. I
have the system hooked to a homemade groundplane at about 30' in the
air. The antenna is cut for the VHF-hi region and is hooked together
using a run of Beldin 9913 coax. I've had EXCELLENT results using this
combination antenna/radio system.
Radio Shack
Pro-43 (SOLD)
- Excellent radio for the time...and still is!
Bearcat
BC8500XLT (SOLD)
- I'm counting this as a learning experience - even had the tone board.
Later to be sold....
Uniden
BC235XLT (SOLD)
- Mine, and the scanning industry's, first trunking scanner. Big
learning curve; but fun.
Radio Shack
Pro-2045
- Excellent radio! I put the tone board in and this radio is even
better. First radio when I considered buying two.
Uniden
BC245XLT (SOLD)
- Was my workhorse until the BC250D. Sold the BC8500XLT and used the
funds to purchase this gem. Opened my horizons to computer interfaces.
Radio Shack
Pro-92
(SOLD)
- Mixed feelings on this radio. It definitely has distinct pro's and
con's. Love the computer interface and instant tone decode capability.
Hate the "open/closed" scanning of trunked systems.....
Uniden
BC250D
-
Major learning curve on this beauty! So far I LOVE everything about
this radio. I went ahead and purchased the BCi25D Digital decoder card
and installed it from day one. Uniden is getting closer to perfection.
Radio Shack Pro-83
-
Definitely a different kind of radio! Even though this radio has no
PL/DPL, or alpha tags, I still like this radio for the simplicity (in
some ways). The feature that ''makes'' this radio for me is the 'Signal
Stalker' feature....this is the sole reason I bought this unit. This
radio will definitely come handy in MANY ways. So far, I am impressed
with this feature and can really see the potential in this radio for
"undercover" work when trying to nail down those elusive freqs.....
Radio
Shack Pro-97
-
Essentially, the Big brother to the Pro-92. I was tired of the
"deafness" of the '92, so, since the 'Shack had them "on sale" for a
nice price; I talked myself into one. Actually, I'm fairly impressed
with the sensitivity of the unit. Signal Stalker is a plus along with
the PL/DCS "instant" decode and the Alpha tagging capability. This is a
fairly impressive radio for use in my area of the state (little to no
trunking....yet)......
<update>.......Like this radio enough I went and bought a second
one.......
Radio
Shack Pro-96
- This radio is nice ....... V-scanners are GREAT !! Not sure how these
compare to the Uniden "dynamic memory".....This one really reminds me
of the Pro-92, display is essentially the same layout. Digital aspect
is excellent.....
