Ohio State Patrol
State Patrol now utilizes the new M.A.R.C.S. 800Mhz system being implemented across the state. You can monitor their traffic only with a scanner capable of decoding the P25 digital traffic. The following talkgroups are the ones to monitor when you are utilizing the Dayton MARCS site for the signal:

TG 1408 - Post 68 - Preble / Darke County - Operations
TG 1424 - Post 68 - Preble / Darke County - TAC
TG 63664 - Mutual Aid Communications between OSP and Preble County SO

Trunking is slowly making its way into our little county. The State of Ohio has installed a radio tower for the MARCS system local to the county, actually, to the North of the county. The site is located in the southern portion of Darke County; in the area of New Madison. On Treport, it gives a site alias of "EATON"; but, is no where near the city of Eaton. New Madison would, and apparently does, give good radio coverage for the OSP units working the I-70 corridor; since there is the possibility of the units having "spotty" reception when in contact with the Dayton Post (Post #57).

For all you people running digital Trunktrackers here are the particulars:

868.8250 - Control Channel
867.7500 - Alternate Control Channel
867.0750
866.2625

I was on business when I had the chance to stop into the Eaton PD station; and while talking to the dispatcher behind the window, I couldn't help but notice the shiny, still-brand-new Motorola MARCS radio behind her. It was set on  the SO-68 talkgroup (63664)......and either the County Health Dept. or the EMA Liason has checked in more than once on the ODH roll call (called to order every Wednesday @ 10:00am) on MARCS TG 6832,
IIRC......So, digital technology has made its way into our serene little county......

.....(From the AOSC Newsletter Issue #167, Montgomery County Report, written by Ken Williams) ....states that, "..... Preble County S.O. and Eaton P.D. , (as well as Greenville, in Darke County) are either getting, or have already gotten, access to the Montgomery County Trunked Radio System. When their dispatch consoles are to be replaced, the new consoles will afford them the capability to access Montgomery Counties talkgroup #10480 (I-PSAP - Inter-Public Safety Answering Point). This will give the dispatch centers the ability to contact each when needed.......

...and keep in mind, the old VHF-lo and VHF-hi frequencies may still be used:
44.74 Base
44.90 Mobile
154.680 (simplex)

Note: Since Post #68 was closed a short time ago; radio coverage, as well as patrol, was taken over by Post #57 out of Dayton.
