Review of the Invicta 9212 Speedway

The 9212 is part of Invicta's "Speedway" collection a
line which has been on the market for about two years and is available in both men's and women's models. The 9212 is a two-tone model with a while dial. It should be noted that the Speedway is styled very closely after the Rolex Daytona. Aesthetically, the 9212 is quite stunning surprisingly so. I have to admit that I'm a big fan of the Daytona look, but not willing to part with roughly $10,000.00 US to obtain it from Rolex. The gold chrono dials contrast nicely against the white dial. It's both legible and attractive. Any watch that is lacking a date indicator is a tough sell for me. But this watch is just so darn nice to look at, I'm willing to overlook the lack of this feature. I've already gotten comments from strangers about how sharp the watch is.
The 9212 is the first two tone (TT) Invicta watch I've
owned. I'll admit to some trepidation: could Invicta really pull off a classy looking TT watch Invicta has always provided a product which most owners agree is of far higher quality and value than the price paid indicates. But producing a TT watch at the price point of the 2112 seemed that didn't look cheap Quite the contrary the 9212 is gorgeous. The 23 karat gold plating on the bezel, face, and band looks every bit as good as that used on my Movado and Tag Heuer TT models - absolutely amazing. The band on this watch appears to be the same tried and true band used on the legendary Invicta 8926. With the 8926, the center links are polished steel, where as on the 9212 they are 23 karat gold plated. The band is both attractive and comfortable.
I just can't stop staring at the dial of this watch. The
gold markers, hands, and chrono dials against the white face is just awesome. The markers and hands do have Invicta's Tritium luminous coating. The watch is quite visible in the dark about the same as the 8926. Of course, the Tritium coating has been weakness in the Invicta line for some time now - it just doesn't match the overall quality of their watches.
The 9212 uses a quartz movement which is, I believe, by
Miyota. An interesting point here is that this chronograph watch isn't a true chronograph in the strictest sense. The register at 3 o'clock
does not track elapsed time - it seems to be more of a 24 hour hand. Useful for determining if it is day or night, but that's about all. I'm not one who is terribly concerned about the precision of my watches so I've made no attempt to measure it.
In the end, the Invicta Speedway 9212 is a dress watch for
me - form over function. The lack of a date indicator means I'm more likely to rely on my other watches for Monday through Friday use. It's a neat watch and an incredible value at an Internet price under $150.00 USD ($480.00 retail).
Suggested improvements would include the addition of an automatic (Swiss) movement, and a sapphire crystal both front and (display) back, and improved luminous coating on the hands and markers. With these additions, this watch would be competitive with the actual Rolex Daytona!
