My name is Bill Taylor, and I'm operator of amateur radio station K8TBW.

My first callsign was K5JLK. I have been a amateur radio operator since 1953. The callsigns K5JLK and K8TBW were issued to me by The Federal Communications Commision.

My favorite modes of communicating are : AMTOR, CLOVER, PACTOR, and VHF PACKET. Over the years I have used other modes including: CW, SSB, and RTTY.

I've made many QSO's over the years with "ham radio" operators all over the world. I have exchanged QSL cards and have many in my shack.

What is a QSL Card? Many radio amateurs still carry on the tradition of using a QSL card as a confirmation of a contact with another amateur station. More commonly today it is a selective practice used when you make a first contact with a country, or would particularly like to receive a QSL in return. The "QSL" comes from the Q-code (this code is a topic in the Amateur Regulations Examination) which basically means "acknowledge", thus a QSL card is an acknowledgment card. A QSL card contains some basic information - the amateur station's callsign, location, licensee's name and postal address, and often details about the amateur station equipment. It will also include details of the contact, the date/time, frequency, mode of transmission, and signal report.

Besides collecting QSL cards, I also have collected stamps. I've had the opportunity to personally meet many hams and become friends with them. ON4VS from Belgium has visited my shack several times. Another ham-related hobby of mine has been building linear amplifiers for ham use.

My XYL Gerry and I have (3) grown "kids" (Bill Jr., Sherry, and Cathy). We have (4) grand-children (Jason , Eric , Ashley, and Chris ). We have (3) great-grand-daughters (Courtney, Kayla and MacKenzie), and (3) great-grand sons (Jerrod , Isaac , and Thomas). I am 72 years old, and I retired in 1991 from Autolite Spark Plug plant after working there 30 years.

We live in Fostoria, Ohio (Wood county) which is located approx 45 miles South East of Toledo, 120 miles West of Cleveland, 100 miles North of Dayton. Fostoria is the original home of "Fostoria Crystal Glass" that was mfg here until the early 1900's.
