Digitally Colored Photo Art!
What I've done is to take black and white photos and digitally color them using a limited number of colors. The idea is to explore our perception of color. Specifically, how many colors are really needed for a clear view of an image.
These two photos, while not digitally colored, have been digitally enhanced. (No, they are not scenes from Yellow Springs.) On the left is the Moon Bridge in the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. It was a misty, rainy day. The bridge decking had a wet sheen that caused the wood grain to be washed out in the original photo. So I rebuilt the grain. On the right is an alley in Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands, The original print had faded, and some colors had shifted. So I punched up the brightness and contrast, and restored the colors.
From there, I moved up to combining elements from
different photos, in a bit of digital manipulation, to create
a fanciful image. The picture below is an example.
The background is a trail on the Olympic Peninsula, in Washington State.
The storm door is from a house where I once lived in Yellow Springs.

Finally, I switched to taking black and white photos, choosing the colors used, to create the sort of images I wanted to produce.
