To help out our customers, we have come up with a list of acceptable pumps for RIMS use. They are (prices are subject to change):
1) Little Giant Magnetic Drive Pump: Model 2P579 Grainger (available only online at http://www.grainger.com)
2) March Magnetic Drive Pump: Model MDXT-3 (Available from local March retailers. Check March's web site at http://www.marchpump.com for local distributors near you.) $110.00
3) There are also numerous magnetic drive pumps available for homebrew/RIMS applications at the Beer Beer & More Beer web site at http://www.morebeer.com. There are a wide range of pumps at various prices at this site. Plus the site is set up for homebrewers, by homebrewers. The model numbers for these pumps are frequently changing, so just look for the right horsepower and price to suit your wallet.
Our preference would be to buy the Little Giant pump (#1 above). Our second choice would be for the March pump (#2 above), which is very similar to the Little Giant pump, or one of the More Beer pumps. We can't see any reason to buy one of the more expensive Little Giant pumps unless that is all you can find.

A 5500W heating element is recommended.
If you don't have one, pick
up a 20 Amp GFCI while you are there.
Heater Element Housing Components:
You owe it to yourself to go
to a REAL plumbing supply store/warehouse for these items. They will have
a knowledgeable staff, a whole array of fittings, and you will usually
be able to buy copper tubing by the foot, cut to your specifications. They
may even help you flare the ends of any fittings to which you will be attaching
flexible tubing. Plus you can brainstorm ideas for your own heater element
housing design if ours doesn't fully suit your needs. J
