HAM RADIO
Home Station - My home station consists of a Kenwood TS-450SAT HF transceiver capable of 100 watts. The antenna is a G5RV currently at about 30ft (plans are to increase the height). Logging software is WIN-EQF. Computer interfaces include the MFJ 1278B Multi-mode, as well as the Rig Blaster.
Station aboard Sailboat Ruffian - An ICOM 706MKIIG is used aboard ruffian to give all mode capabilities in the HF as well as 2 meter VHF and 70 CM UHF bands. For the HF bands the AH-4 autotuner is used feeding a long wire suspended from the top of the mast to an attachment on the stern rail. For 2 meter and 70 CM a dual band vertical is attached to the top of the mast ( I have forgotten exactly what kind, as it has been several years since the antenna was mounted)
Mobile Radio - The Kenwood TM-V7A is primarily used for 2 meter and 70 cm FM communications. Occasionally, the ICOM 706 may be moved from the boat to the car to operate HF, usually in the winter months when Ruffian is on the hard.
