Fellowship Opportunities At St. John's
Congregation
St. John’s Lutheran Church has started a new ministry for a Christian based weight loss program. The PRISM weight loss program helps participants change physically, mentally and spiritually. The program addresses the negative use of food by using workbooks and scriptures to help you rely on God for your strength and transformation. During the PRISM program, participants will learn to keep a daily food journal and meet with a support group once a week. The program consists of 4 six week long phases in which a weekly meeting will involve prayer, an inspirational video and spiritual support. The PRISM program does not include weekly weight check-in’s. Instead, the PRISM guidelines help participants break unhealthy ties to the scales through a very freeing process.
To do this we are involved in three community events. First being “Kids Around the Square”, usually held in June on a Saturday morning. The other two being parades, the Applefest in September and the Winter Wonderland just after Thanksgiving. If you would like to help with any or all of these projects in any capacity from ideas to completions, please call the church office at 492-8047. We need fresh input.
Men’s Ministry
We are starting a new ministry just for men! Now, ladies, don’t stop reading. Please continue, there will be something important for you later. This probably won’t look like men’s ministries of the past. Following is the how we intend to have a meaningful men’s ministry at St. John’s.
Be Purpose Driven Rather Than Event Driven. Events are good, but they are not ministry. We are looking for a meaningful men’s ministry where men can grow in their faith with the support of other men. Events attract men, relationships make them stick.
Be Relationship Based Rather Than . Building relationships with other Christian men is our goal. Men’s ministries used to focus on planned events; our focus is to make disciples, not workers. The Bible tells us to make disciples, not workers. “The harvest is so great, and the workers are so few,” (Jesus) told his disciples. “So pray to the one in charge of the harvesting, and ask him to recruit more workers for his harvest fields.” (Matthew 9:37-38)
Start Small Groups. These small groups are based in prayer, Bible study and fellowship. We have already started two small groups. One is meeting on Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. and one on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. Both of these meet at the church. We also have our long standing men’s prayer breakfast at the Holiday Inn, Friday’s at 6:30 a.m.
Then Have Large Group Functions. After we have established a number of small groups we will then look at having functions that will include all of the groups. These could be retreats, fellowship events, service projects and / or ministry opportunities.
How do I get involved? Call the church office or just show up at one of the times listed above. If you are not an early morning person, we are looking to start other small groups at various times and days. Don’t be intimidated to start a new group; we will supply help and resources to start a successful group.
Now ladies, (sorry for making you wait so long) do you know a man who would benefit from meeting, praying and studying the Bible with other Christian men, a husband, father, son, boyfriend, co-worker or friend? Urge them to contact us, I’m sure you won’t be sorry that you did.
