Charlie Graham was the guest speaker at the May 20th meeting. Charlie is from Centerville Ohio and in the Investment and Insurance business. He spoke on the Youth Ministry Program in Dayton, which he helped organize 10 years ago. This is a program that recognizes youths from all the parishes in Dayton area who have been active in any type of ministry in the church - lectors, choir members, servers, Eucharistic Ministers etc. from the 7 to 12th grade. Each pastor recommends up to 12 youths for the award. They have a procession to the church led by the 4th degree K of C. They have a guest speaker on vocations followed by a reception. Each student receives a certificate, medal and rosary. Following the ceremony different Orders of priest and nuns have booths and give information about vocations. Charlie said that this is a beautiful way recognizing youths for other things than sports and the youth and parents are extremely proud of the recognition. From Deacon Floyd Hohman: Before Jesus ascended into heaven He told his disciples that they would proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins in his name to people of all nations because they will receive a "power from on high." Throughout the world the name of the game is, and has always been, power, the ability to do something or to act in some way. Usually it is the ability to influence the behavior of others or the course of events. The drive for power, for better or worse, is in each of us. So the issue really comes down to: Who has the power? Who gets power? What can I do to increase my power? Power can be used both to bless and destroy. It has been said that the human need for power can be overruled by the human need for love and the human capacity for love. The "power from on high" that Jesus promised his disciples was the coming of the Holy Spirit to fill their lives and guide their mission in the world. The power of the Holy Spirit is the power of love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. This is the true meaning of the "Power From on High." It is the strength to love as Christ loved. The Holy Spirit is God's power within us, if we will accept it. How are we using the Power of God's Spirit that we received at Baptism and again at Confirmation? Deacon Floyd Announcements: May 26 Holy hours at Mercy Hospital. Check schedules. June 2 - Tom Fretz & daughter Speaking on their visit to Rome & Pope with Power point presentation. June 22 - Reception for Msgr. Dunn
