September 2008

Prayer Intentions:

For an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and Religious life.

For an end to abortion and a respect for all life from birth to natural death.

For our military personnel and their families.

On September 2, 2008 the Tiffin Serra Club meeting was brought to order by prayer with Pat Englehart leading. Dinner followed. We recited the Prayer called “THE BEAUTIFUL HANDS OF A PRIEST”   We need them in life’s early morning, we need them again at it’s close; We feel the warm clasp of true friendship, we seek them when tasting life’s woe.  At the altar each day we behold them, and the hands of a king on his throne are not equal to them in their greatness, their dignity stands all alone; and when we are tempted and wander to pathways of shame and of sin, it’s the hands of a Priest will absolute us-not once, but again and again; and when we are taking life’s partner other hands may prepare us a feast, but the hand that will bless and unite us is the beautiful hands of a Priest.  God bless them and keep them all holy for the Host which their fingers caress.  When can a poor sinner do better than to ask Him to guide thee and bless?  When the hour of death comes upon us may our courage and strength be increased by seeing raised over us in blessing the beautiful hands of a Priest. I think this is such a beautiful prayer.

Pat read a thank you note from the Sisters of St. Francis.  Fr. Joe spoke about the vocation Mass on Sept. 6 with Phillips Smith (Seminarian) about his time spent in Rome. Phillip has now returned to Rome for another year of study. To: JESUS, SON OF JOSEPH

FROM:  Jordan Management consultants

Dear Sir;

Thank you for submitting the resumes of the twelve men you have selected for managerial positions in your new organization.  All of them have now taken a battery of tests.  We have not only run the results through our computer, but we have also arranged personal interviews for each of them with our psychological and vocational aptitude consultant.

It is the staff opinion that most of your nominees are lacking in background, education and vocational aptitude fot type of enterprise you are undertaking.  They do not have the team concept.
Simon Peter is emotionally unstable and given fits of temper.  Andrew has absolutely no qualities of leadership.  The two brothers James and John, place personal interest above company loyalty.  Thomas demonstrates a skeptical attitude that would tend to undermine morale.  Matthew has been black-listed by the Jerusalem Better Business Bureau.  James the son of Alpheus and Thaddeus definitely have radical leanings, and they both registered a high score on the manic-depressive scale.

One of the candidates, however, shows great potential.  He is a man of ability and resourcefulness, meets people well, has a keen business mind, and has contacts ion high places.  He is highly motivated, ambitious and responsible.  We recommend Judas Iscariot as your controller and right hand man.

We wish you every success in your new venture.

“Monks are ordinary people who do ordinary things, but who seek always to find God in the ordinariness of their lives.  That is what makes their life extraordinary.”

In short, monastic practices are:  Concrete ways of living, Practical and applied things that help grow to holiness and we must have a desire to be holy.

        A.  It is our approach to work that makes the difference

        B.  Monastic work seeks to find a balance between work and a contemplative life.

        C.  We must approach our work as if it is a means of seeking God.

        D.  We should view our work as co-creative

        E.  Contemplative work should embody a stewardship of the communities’/society’s resources
